Autumn would never be complete without celebrating the holidays of reconciliation and gratitude.
Yom Kippur (October 7-8, 2011) is the Day of Atonement, a time to reflect and atone for sins of the past year and forgive ourselves for a fresh start. Forgiveness from others wronged needs a bit of a head start – seeking reconciliation and righting the wrongs must all be done before the holiday. Yom Kippur is a time to break from work, fast and attend synagogue, allowing the mind to fully focus on atonement and emerge at peace.
Thanksgiving (October 10, 2011) is the holiday of gratitude. In Canada its origins go back to the settlers who gave thanks for a successful harvest, celebrating the bounty that would carry them through harsh Canadian winters. Today it’s a time to gather friends and family and give thanks over a meal while counting our blessings.
From our family to yours, Happy Holidays!
